Vegetation is a common call out on home inspections. It may seem trivial and often is ignored, but I am here to tell you it shouldn’t be.
The number one enemy to your home is moisture. Moisture does more damage to homes than most any other hazard to your homes longevity. Vegetation is a moisture magnet. If a tree, bush, ivy or any type of growth is in contact with your home it is wicking moisture to the area it is touching. This can cause wood rot, wear and other wood destroying organisms to gain access to your home.
Vegetation also causes wear and tear with its movement in the wind. Trees in contact with your roofing can shorten the life span of the roof covering it is in contact with by wearing it down. Keep vegetation trimmed back from the home and you will have stopped a major cause of home damage from occurring.
