What does a home inspector mean when they state the Average Life Expectancy of a system or component? Usually these numbers come from the manufacture of the product. They are stated to give a consumer two pieces of information, how long the system or component may last or when you should think about replacing a system or component for a newer more efficient one. Every system in a home has an average life expectancy, you can extend these numbers with regular maintenance. I find HVAC systems that have annual maintenance definitely last longer than those that don't. The National Association of Home Builders has a study of life expectancy of home systems and components you can review by clicking here.
This is just one of the many areas that emphasis the importance of getting a highly trained home inspector to perform an inspection for you if you are purchasing a home. Home Inspectors Group has the highest level of certification and training in the industry called a Certified Master Inspector. A Certified Master Inspector is a professional designation for those who become Board-Certified by the Master Inspector Certification Board. Don't hesitate to call if you have any questions about getting your home inspection completed. 407-301-5936
